We look at both. Cellular models carry an extra account tie to the carrier in some cases, so mention it when you reach out, but a cellular tablet is not automatically worth more or less to bring.

My iPad screen is cracked but it still works. Is it worth bringing?

Yes. A cracked screen that still displays and responds to touch is a different situation than one that is dark or unresponsive, and it is worth having us look either way.

Do you buy older iPads, or only the newest models?

What if I don't remember my Apple ID password?

Try to recover it before the meetup. A tablet still locked to an account is not something we can do anything with, regardless of how it looks otherwise.

What we take

We buy tablets from the major makers: iPad by generation, including the iPad Pro 13-inch M4, iPad Pro 11-inch M5, iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip, the standard iPad 10th generation, and iPad Air 5, plus Samsung Galaxy Tab models and Amazon Fire tablets. We look at cellular models and wifi-only models the same way — bring whichever one you have and we will tell you what we can do with it. Storage size does not change whether a tablet is worth mentioning, whether it is a base model or a maxed-out Pro. If you have a keyboard case, a stylus, or an Apple Pencil that came with it, bring those along too. Apple Pencil charges differently depending on which one you have: the original plugs directly into the iPad's port, or through an adapter on newer iPads; a newer version snaps magnetically to the side of a compatible iPad to charge there; and the Apple Pencil with USB-C charges through its own USB-C port under a cap, using that same magnetic side attachment only for storage, not for charging. Whichever one you have, bring it along, whether or not it is currently paired to the tablet, since accessories like these are easy to lose track of once a tablet stops being used every day.

Condition, in plain language

A tablet with a cracked screen, a battery that drains fast, or a home button that sticks is still worth bringing. What matters most on a tablet is whether it powers on and whether it is locked to an account we cannot get past — the same iCloud or Google account lock that applies to phones applies here too. A tablet with scratches, a scuffed case or a screen protector peeling at the corner is completely normal and does not change much. Tablets that spent years in a kid's hands often show corner dings from a protective case doing its job, or a screen worn from styluses and finger swiping, or a case that has clearly been dropped a few times without the tablet itself taking any real damage — none of that changes whether it is worth bringing. A tablet that will not turn on at all, or one with a shattered screen you cannot see through, is a different story, and we will tell you honestly what that means once we look at it.

Before you meet us

Sign out of iCloud or your Google account and turn off Find My iPad or Find My Device before you come, the same as you would with a phone. This matters even more on a cellular model, since some carriers also attach an account lock on top of the device lock — if yours came from a carrier, check whether it needs to be removed from that account too. If the tablet has a cellular plan still active, cancelling the plan or removing the SIM beforehand is worth doing, though it will not stop us from looking at the tablet itself. Back up any photos or files you want to keep, since we confirm a factory reset before you leave. If the tablet was set up for a child, a Screen Time or Restrictions passcode can block the reset from the Settings app. Clear it, or reset from a computer, before you come.

How the meetup works

Fill out the form with the tablet's make, model, cellular or wifi, and condition, or text us directly. We arrange a meetup in the Albany area or come to you, look the tablet over together, and tell you plainly whether it is something we can buy that day. If you have a case, keyboard or stylus, bring those along so we can look at the complete set rather than just the tablet on its own. If it is something we can buy, you are paid in cash on the spot, and we confirm a factory reset in front of you before you go. Nothing gets shipped either direction. If we cannot use it for some reason, we will say so honestly rather than leaving you guessing, and you walk away with the tablet still in hand.
