Broken phones

Sell a broken or cracked phone in Albany

Yes, we want to hear about a broken phone. A cracked screen, a dead battery, water damage, a bad charging port or a phone that will not turn on is still worth a message. Tell us the model and what is wrong, we meet you in the Albany area by appointment or come to you, and you are paid in cash on the spot for any phone we can use.

Broken phones we want to hear about

Any iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel or other Android phone, whatever is wrong with it. Here are the usual problems, and what to tell us about each one.

Cracked screen

Tell us the model, where the crack is and whether the touch screen still responds and the picture still shows. A photo of the front, lit from the side, is the most useful thing you can send.

Dead or weak battery

Tell us whether the phone only works while plugged in, shuts off at a percentage, or has swollen so the screen lifts. If the case is bulging, stop charging it and tell us before you bring it.

Will not turn on

Tell us what happens when you hold the power button and plug in a charger for an hour: nothing, a logo, a loop, a red battery icon. Say when it stopped and what happened just before.

Water damage

Tell us when it got wet, what it fell in, and whether it has worked since. Do not charge a phone that has been wet; let it dry and tell us what happened.

Bad charging port or buttons

Tell us whether the cable has to be wiggled, whether it charges wirelessly, and which buttons no longer work.

What to tell us

Send the make and model (Settings > About on most phones), the storage size if you know it, what is wrong, and whether it is locked to a carrier or an account. Photos of the front, the back and any damage help us reply faster. You do not need to describe the problem in technical words; plain language is fine.

Before you sell a broken phone

If the phone still turns on, sign out of your Apple Account or Google account and erase it using the steps on the iPhone page or the Samsung Galaxy page before we meet. If it will not turn on, you cannot erase it yourself, so tell us that and we will talk through what to do. Either way, remove your SIM card if you can, back up from iCloud or Google if the phone ever did that, and never share your passcode in a text. A phone still signed in to your account is the one problem we cannot work around, so if you have the password, sort that out first.

How the meetup works

Tell us the model and what is in the bag through the form on this page, or text us a photo. We set a time in the Albany area or drive out to you anywhere in the Capital Region, and you are paid in cash on the spot for anything we can use. Meetups are by appointment only, one seller at a time, so please wait for a confirmed time before heading over. Nothing is shipped and nothing waits on a mailed label.

Questions we get

Do you buy broken phones in Albany?
Yes, we want to hear about them. Tell us the model and what is wrong, and we will tell you whether we can set up a meetup. You are paid in cash on the spot for any phone we can use.
Do you buy phones with a cracked screen?
Yes. Send the model and a photo of the crack, and say whether the touch screen still responds.
Do you buy a phone that will not turn on?
Yes, tell us anyway. Say what happens when you hold the power button and when you plug it in, and when it stopped working.
Do you buy water damaged phones?
Yes, tell us what happened. Do not charge a phone that has been wet, and let us know how long ago it got wet and whether it has worked since.
Is a broken phone with a swollen battery safe to bring?
Do not charge it and do not press on it. Tell us before you bring it, store it somewhere away from anything that burns, and we will tell you what to do next.
Do I have to fix it first?
No. Do not pay for a repair before you ask us; bring the phone as it is.
Should I erase a broken phone before I sell it?
Yes, if it still turns on: sign out of your Apple or Google account and erase it. If it will not turn on, tell us and we will talk through the next step.
