Where can you sell a Chromebook for cash near Albany?
· Cash For Electronics Albany Team
If the Chromebook is yours, we buy it. Cash For Electronics Albany pays cash in person, the same day, by appointment in the Albany area or at your door anywhere in the Capital Region. The one exception is a Chromebook that belongs to a school or an employer, which is not yours to sell, whoever the buyer is. Here is which Chromebooks to send us, how to tell whose yours is, how to reset it, and how the other ways to sell compare.
Which Chromebooks we buy
We buy Chromebooks from the makers you will see on most shelves, including Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Dell, along with Google's own Pixelbook. That includes the newer Chromebook Plus models, which Google generally lists from Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo and Samsung; Google's Chromebook pages show the current lineup. Convertibles and touchscreens are fine. You do not need the box, and a laptop with a worn case or a replaced charger is still worth asking about. If you are not sure whether yours is a model we want, send the make and model through the laptops page and we will tell you the same day.
A school or work Chromebook is not yours to sell
Plenty of Chromebooks are handed out by a school district or an employer. Those devices belong to the school or the company, and the organization controls them, so you cannot sell one, and nobody can buy one from you. If yours came from a school or a job, return it to them. A quick way to tell: when the Chromebook starts up, look at the sign-in screen for a notice that the device is managed by an organization, and ask your school or IT department if you are unsure. Google's own help page also says a Chromebook used at work or school cannot be reset by the person using it. A Chromebook you bought yourself, or were given outright, is yours and is fine to sell.
Check how long Google keeps updating it
Every Chromebook has a point after which Google stops sending it new software updates. Google says you can see that date on the device under Settings, then About ChromeOS, then Additional details. It is worth a look before you sell so you know where yours stands. It helps to have the exact make and model handy when you text us, and the model is listed in that same About ChromeOS screen.
Wipe it first: back up, sign out, Powerwash
A Chromebook keeps most of what you do online, but your files in the Downloads folder live on the device, so back them up to Google Drive or an external drive first. Then sign out. To reset it, Google's steps are: press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r, select Restart, then choose Powerwash and Continue. Google notes that the account you sign in with after the reset becomes the owner of the Chromebook, so when the welcome screen comes up, do not sign in with your own account. Power the Chromebook off instead. If you have more than one Google account on it, removing the extra accounts before the reset is a good habit, and the Powerwash then clears the rest. The laptop is not ready to hand over until it has been reset. These are Google's steps as published on support.google.com/chromebook, so check there if your model differs. The Windows wipe guide and Mac wipe guide cover the same job for other laptops.
What to bring
Bring the Chromebook and its charger. If you have the original box or any accessories you want to include, bring those as well, but they are not required. Pick a time through the laptops page, and we will confirm the meetup by text.
Your options, compared fairly
Selling to us is the quickest route to cash: one meeting, paid on the spot, no shipping, and if you decline, you keep the Chromebook. We meet by appointment at 6 Northway Ln, Latham or come to you. A retailer trade-in generally pays in store credit or a gift card, which suits you only if you are buying there anyway, and the trade-in guide explains how two well-known programs pay. Selling it yourself online can reach more buyers, but you take on listing, shipping or meeting a stranger and any disputes, as the sell-it-yourself guide describes. Recycling is the choice for a Chromebook that no longer powers on, and it does not pay you; the recycling guide goes through that option for any laptop. The laptop options guide compares every route in one place.
How to sell yours to us
Send the make, model and a photo through the quote form on the laptops page, or text us. We tell you the same day whether it is something we can buy and set a time and place. You hand over the reset Chromebook with its charger and are paid in cash before you leave. Since the meetup is by appointment, there is no walk-in counter.
Quick answers
- Where can I sell my Chromebook near Albany?
- Cash For Electronics Albany buys Chromebooks for cash, in person, the same day, by appointment in the Albany area or at your door across the Capital Region. A retailer trade-in or an online sale are the other common routes.
- Can I sell a Chromebook from my school or job?
- No. A Chromebook issued by a school or an employer belongs to that organization, so it is not yours to sell. Return it to them. If you are unsure, check the sign-in screen for a notice that the device is managed, and ask your school or IT department.
- How do I reset a Chromebook before selling it?
- Back up your files, sign out, press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r, select Restart, then choose Powerwash and Continue. Google says the account you sign in with afterward becomes the owner, so power it off at the welcome screen instead of signing in.
- Do you buy Chromebook Plus and Pixelbook models?
- Yes. We buy Chromebooks from Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Dell, the newer Chromebook Plus models, and Google Pixelbook. Send the make and model through the laptops page and we will confirm the same day.
- Do I need the box or the charger?
- The charger, yes. The original box is not required. Do bring the Chromebook already reset and signed out.
- Do I have to make an appointment?
- Yes. We meet one seller at a time, so every meetup is by appointment and there is no walk-in counter. Send the details and we will set a time.
